Here is another guide for you level 80 Warriors if any. But the fact is its a whole different game play for the Tank in this expansion so pay attention.
Obviously your gonna need a 1h and shield to tank anything, period. Also note that you have to be facing a mob in order to block, dodge or parry their attacks. So if your back is turned to a mob, all that defense is useless. Get all the mobs in a group and make them face you however you can.
To tank anything that matters, your gonna need the mojority of your talent points spent in the protection tree. 51-56 is good, remember your there to take damage, not deal it.
Get glyphs to increase your tanking effectiveness. personaly going with the devastate and sunder armor glyphs so each devastate applies two sunder armors, plus a nearby mob gets another sunder armor.
Thunderclap is your friend, do it as soon as possible to get all nearby mobs to attack you, follow it up with a well placed shockwave to hit and stun at least mojority of mobs, then start with the devastates.
With the new patch you can charge while in Def stance so if the healer in the back is getting attacked, charge the guy and taunt him immediatly because most healers will be dead within seconds of being attacked.
The new Def cap is 540, so if you have that you should be good, but regardless of what people say, it is not completly neccessary to tank heroics. seen many many heroics tanked with 500-520 def before getting capped at 540+. It may seem difficult to get that high at first, but just use gems with 8 def and 12 stam and a few def enchants and before you know it, your there.
Try not to let burnouts get you doubting yourself as a tank. Many people think unless you have 30,000 health, you cannot tank anything. This is not true, like I said before, ive seen many many heroics with only 22,000-24,000 hp, you just have to be on point with cooldowns and teamwork.
Warriors have alot of cooldowns to reduce damage. You can use them all at once and take basicaly no damage for about 15-20 secs, or you can spread them out one at a time to span about 40-50 secs of reduced damage in someway. To list a few, shield block, last stand, shield wall, enraged regeneration, and any trinket CDs you might have. When these are used all depends on fight and situation, use your best judgement. If a boss has an enrage effect, you should probably use one of these cooldowns.
Although theres nothing wrong with dodge and parry by themselves, defense rating increases both of those as well as shield block rating. So I personaly dont see a point in getting eith one by themselves if you could get Def instead.
Suprisingly, Def can actualy deal some decent damage now. I frequently have revenge and shield slams hit for 4k. Thats the same damage as a crit mortal strike hits for using a 2h. It may not be crazy dps, but its enough to do some quests and not take 2 mins to kill each guy.
Hope that helped.
